Aluminum Grade Comparison: 6061 vs 6082 vs 7075 vs 2024 vs 5052
Typical room-temperature properties for the five aluminum grades we machine most. Values are typical published figures for the listed tempers; mill certificates govern actual lot values.

Aluminum Grade FAQ
6061 or 7075 for a structural arm?
7075-T6 carries about 80 percent more load than 6061-T6 at the same weight, but it welds poorly and anodizes with banding. If the arm is welded or needs cosmetic anodize, 6061 or 6082; if it is bolted and load-bearing, 7075.
Which aluminum grade gives the most uniform anodize?
6061-T6 and 5052-H32 anodize most uniformly. 7075 shows banding where copper-rich phases meet the surface, and 2024 is generally avoided for cosmetic anodize.
Do you stock MIC-6 cast plate for fixtures?
Yes, MIC-6 is our default fixture baseplate: flatness 0.02 mm over 300 mm as received, and it machines without the internal stress of rolled plate.
