5-Axis CNC Machining
Simultaneous 5-axis CNC machining on Mazak VARIAXIS C-600 and j-500 centers for complex geometries, turbine blades, impellers, and structural components.
What Is 5-Axis CNC Machining?
5-axis CNC machining positions a cutting tool along five axes simultaneously (X, Y, Z, A, B), allowing complex geometries to be completed in a single setup. This reduces handling errors and improves accuracy on features that would otherwise require multiple fixturings.
KGL 5-Axis Equipment
- Mazak VARIAXIS C-600 (3 units) for general 5-axis work
- Mazak VARIAXIS j-500 (1 unit) for high-precision parts
- Mazak VARIAXIS FF400-5X (2 units) for smaller, intricate components
- Shixinghong U380 / U480 (3 units) for larger envelopes
Total: 11 five-axis machining centers, Mazak-led.
When to Choose 5-Axis
- Parts with features on multiple faces that require precise angular relationships
- Turbine blades, impellers, and blisks for aerospace
- Complex medical implant geometries
- Structural brackets for robotics and automation
- Parts where ±0.002 mm tolerance is required on specific features
Tolerance and Inspection
Standard 5-axis tolerance: ±0.005 mm across all features. For specific critical features, ±0.002 mm is achievable with full CMM verification on Hexagon GLOBALS (0.0015 mm accuracy) or Zeiss CAPTUM.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum part size for 5-axis?
The Mazak VARIAXIS C-600 has a workspace of 560 x 560 x 560 mm. The Shixinghong U480 handles larger envelopes. Contact us with your part dimensions for confirmation.
Can you machine hardened steel on 5-axis?
Yes. Our Mazak centers handle tool steel, stainless steel, titanium, and hardened steels up to HRC 55. We select tooling and parameters based on your material specification.
What is the typical lead time for 5-axis parts?
Prototypes: 7 to 15 days. Production: 2-4 weeks depending on quantity and complexity. Quote returned within 24 hours of receiving complete 2D/3D files.
