How We Hold Tolerance in Titanium
- Cutting speeds of roughly 30 to 60 m/min in carbide: heat goes into the chip, not the part
- High-pressure coolant blasts chips out of pockets; recut chips are what break tools
- Rigid, short setups against titanium's springback; finish passes take light, constant cuts
- Continuous chip evacuation and segregated chip storage for fire safety

GB designations per GB/T 3620 with ASTM and DIN equivalents from the KGL engineering standard (2022-01-08), grade characteristics and service temperature limits cross-checked with the Mechanical Design Handbook 6th ed. Vol. 1 (grade table 3.2-84, p.1093). Densities in g/cm3. Machining cautions for the family (relative machinability 0.04 to 0.14 on the 45 steel basis) follow the same handbook.

Titanium Machining FAQ
Why is titanium machining priced higher than aluminum or steel?
Cutting speeds run at a fraction of steel speeds, rigid setups matter more because of titanium's low modulus, and tool life is shorter. What you pay for is process control, not just machine time.
Which titanium grade for a medical-adjacent part?
Gr23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) for implant-adjacent and surgical instrument work where elongation matters; Gr2 for bodies and housings where formability and weldability count; Gr5 for structural parts.
Do you support fire-safety controls for titanium chips?
Yes. Titanium fine chips are a real fire risk. We run continuous chip evacuation, segregated titanium chip storage, and trained operators; this is part of our titanium SOP.
