POM CNC Machining
POM (acetal/Delrin) and POM+GF machining for gears, bushings, and precision plastic components.
POM (Acetal / Delrin)
POM offers excellent dimensional stability, low friction, and good machinability. We also machine glass-filled POM (POM+GF) for higher stiffness and temperature resistance.
| Grade | Density (g/cm3) | Where it wins |
|---|---|---|
| POM / Delrin (natural, black) | 1.42-1.43 | Gears, bushings, insulators; lowest friction of the commodity plastics |
| POM + 25% glass fiber | 1.61 | Stiffer gear trains and structural guides; abrasive, machined with carbide |
| POM conductive / ESD grades | 1.40-1.44 | Static-safe handling fixtures for electronics |
Typical POM Parts

Questions buyers ask
POM or nylon for gears: which should I pick?
POM wins on low friction, low moisture uptake and dimensional stability, which is why it is our default for gears and sliding elements. Nylon (PA66, or PA66+GF) wins on toughness and impact loads. Send the load and duty cycle and we recommend a grade with the quote.
What tolerance can you hold on POM?
The standard is +/-0.005 mm. POM moves less than PEI but more than metal, so we rough, let the part settle, then finish cut. Small features such as gear tooth profiles hold tighter after aging.
Do you machine glass-filled POM?
Yes, POM+GF in 10 to 30 percent fill levels. The glass fibers are abrasive, so we use diamond or carbide tooling and accept slightly faster insert wear in exchange for the stiffness gain.
