About This Part

Casting gets the housing near net shape; five axis machining gets it optical. This A356 body carries a cluster of precision coaxial bores with position tolerances, milled internal cavity geometry, and mounting threads in several directions, every functional surface cut from the casting rather than used as cast.

All threads and mounting slots are machined and grounded per the drawing note, which matters for optics where a floating ground or a paint filled thread is a real failure. The appearance standard is smooth surfaces with no burrs, scratches, or missing material.

Inspection runs the CMM on the bore positions and coaxiality, inside micrometers and calipers on the bores, and visual appearance.

This part family supports the Optical / Semiconductor Parts industry. Read how KGL machines parts for that sector, then send your drawing for a quote.

Why Machine It at KGL

Five-Axis Fleet

100+ CNC machines including 11 five-axis centers run complex geometry in single setups, so tolerances do not stack up across refixturing.

Verified Accuracy

±0.005 mm standard on metals, plastics, and carbon fiber composite, verified on Hexagon and Zeiss CMMs (0.0015 mm accuracy).

Fast Prototypes

Engineering feedback with every quotation; prototype parts typically machined in 15 to 25 days.

One Supplier, End to End

Material sourcing, machining, heat treatment coordination, finishing, CMM inspection and export packaging under one roof.

Common Questions

Why cast then machine instead of billet?

The outer shape is organic and does not need precision; the bores and interfaces do. Casting buys the shape cheaply and five axis machining buys only the geometry that needs it.

Why do the threads need grounding?

Optical assemblies are sensitive to stray paths and to coating in the threads. Machined, grounded threads are conductive and clean where the drawing needs them to be.
