About This Part

Lens barrels need round bores, true concentricity, and clean threads so optical elements seat and align correctly. KGL turns and mills aluminum and stainless steel barrels for cameras, inspection heads, laser systems, and semiconductor metrology tools.

We hold bore-to-OD concentricity within 0.01 mm and finish optical bores to Ra 0.8 µm or better. Black anodize is applied after machining to cut stray light and protect the surface during assembly.

This part family supports the Semiconductor Equipment industry. Read how KGL machines parts for that sector, then send your drawing for a quote.

Why Machine It at KGL

Five-Axis Fleet

100+ CNC machines including 11 five-axis centers run complex geometry in single setups, so tolerances do not stack up across refixturing.

Verified Accuracy

±0.005 mm standard on metals, plastics, and carbon fiber composite, verified on Hexagon and Zeiss CMMs (0.0015 mm accuracy).

Fast Prototypes

Engineering feedback with every quotation; prototype parts typically machined in 15 to 25 days.

One Supplier, End to End

Material sourcing, machining, heat treatment coordination, finishing, CMM inspection and export packaging under one roof.

Part-Specific Advantages

  • Bores and threads are machined in the same setup to maintain concentricity.
  • Fine-pitch threads are checked with thread gauges and CMM for fit.
  • Black anodize reduces internal reflection in imaging assemblies.
  • 5-axis machining handles off-axis mounting feet and integrated brackets.

Typical Applications

  • Camera lens barrels and retaining rings
  • Semiconductor wafer-inspection optics
  • Laser cutting head focusing systems
  • AR/VR optical modules
  • Medical imaging and endoscope housings

Common Questions

Can you hold the bore tolerance needed for camera lenses?

Yes. We routinely hold H7 bore tolerances and 0.01 mm concentricity on aluminum barrels, with CMM reports.

Do you assemble lenses into the barrels?

We machine and supply the barrel, retaining ring, and spacer. Lens seating and optical alignment are normally done by our customer.

What finish is best for stray-light control?

Black hard anodize on 6061-T6 gives a durable, low-reflectance surface. We can also apply matte black coating on request.
