ISO 13485:2016 at KGL: What Medical Device Customers Should Know
KGL ISO 13485:2016 certification by NQCC, No. 50526YY00027R000. Purpose, scope, traceability, and how the medical device quality system runs on the shop floor.
Medical device customers started asking for ISO 13485:2016 in 2024. They trusted our ISO 9001 system for prototypes, but once a part moved toward clinical validation they needed a supplier whose quality system explicitly addressed risk management, traceability, and process validation. We started the certification project in late 2024 and passed the initial NQCC audit in May 2026. Certificate number 50526YY00027R000 is valid until 2029-05-14.
Scope: precision hardware parts processing
The certificate scope covers precision hardware parts processing, excluding items that require a medical device production license. In practice this means surgical instruments, orthopedic brackets, endoscope housings, implant-related fixtures, and other precision hardware that becomes part of a finished device. KGL does not assemble or sterilize final devices; the customer remains responsible for final-device regulatory approval. What this means for part families and packaging is on the ISO 13485 quality page, and industry examples are under medical machining.

Four controls added on top of ISO 9001
Lot traceability. Every medical job carries a lot number tied to raw-material certificates, operator, inspection report, and surface-treatment batch. We can answer batch questions within minutes.
Handling and contamination control. Medical parts are packed in sealed bags after final inspection. We segregate medical work and control cutting fluids to avoid residue that could affect biocompatibility.
Process validation. Special processes are validated when the output cannot be fully verified by inspection. We keep validation records and supplier approval records.
Risk-based corrective action. Nonconformances are analyzed for patient-safety risk, not just dimensional impact. Corrective actions close only after root-cause elimination is verified.

What this means for customers
For medical device engineers, ISO 13485:2016 means KGL speaks the same quality language as their regulatory team. It shortens supplier qualification, reduces audit findings, and gives them documented foundation for their own device submissions.

Frequently asked questions
Is ISO 13485 the same as FDA clearance?
No. ISO 13485 certifies the quality management system behind the parts, not a specific product. Many device makers require it from suppliers before any component order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the certified scope at KGL?
Manufacture and service of precision hardware parts for medical devices, certified by NQCC, No. 50526YY00027R000, valid from 2026-05-15 to 2029-05-14.
Frequently asked questions
What traceability comes with a medical order?
Every lot carries material certificates back to the heat number, and each critical dimension is measured and recorded against the drawing before shipment.
