Why KGL Chose ISO 9001:2015 and How It Runs Every Day

KGL founder Qiaosheng Hu explains why ISO 9001:2015 was pursued, what the ZTIC certificate covers, and how the quality system runs on the shop floor.

ISO 9001:2015 is often treated as a checkbox. At KGL it is the operating system of the factory. The certificate, issued by ZTIC under number 46524Q10234R0M, covers the design of automation equipment and the processing of precision hardware components. It is valid from 2024-10-21 to 2027-10-20. This article explains why we pursued it and how it actually works on the floor. The system as buyers see it is summarized on our ISO 9001 quality page.

The trigger: a customer audit in 2023

We could answer technical questions and hit tolerances, but an overseas customer audit showed that our records were scattered. Drawing changes, process sheets, and CMM reports existed, but tracing one order from quote to final inspection took too long. That audit became the starting point for a unified quality management system.

What ISO 9001:2015 changed

The standard forced us to write down the sequence that had always been in the minds of our engineers: understand the requirement, plan the process, control inputs, verify outputs, keep records, and review management data. We now keep a controlled document list, an internal audit schedule, and a monthly management review that feeds into the next month's improvement targets.

Daily practice: four mechanisms

Document control. Drawings and process sheets are version-controlled. When a customer sends a revision, the old version is archived and the shop floor sees only the current one.

First-article inspection. New parts receive a full FAI report before batch production. The report follows the lot.

Quarterly internal audits. We audit one process area each quarter, not once a year. Findings go into an action register with owners and deadlines.

Management review. Every month we review nonconformance rates, customer complaints, on-time delivery, and calibration status. Decisions feed directly into improvement targets.

What the certificate means for customers

ISO 9001:2015 does not guarantee perfection. It guarantees that deviations are caught, recorded, and corrected in a repeatable way. A visitor to our factory can trace an order from the approved drawing to the CMM report, and see the same method applied to every other job.

Frequently asked questions

Which certification body issued the certificate?

ZTIC issued the certificate, No. 46524Q10234R0M, valid from 2024-10-21 to 2027-10-20. Surveillance audits keep it current during the three-year cycle.

Frequently asked questions

Does ISO 9001 cover prototype orders or only production?

Both. The same document control, process verification, and inspection routines apply whether you order two first articles or a repeating monthly lot.

Frequently asked questions

Can customers audit KGL against ISO 9001?

Yes. Customer audits are welcome on site or by video walkthrough, and we share the certificate and scope on request.
